How can I clean/wash my son’s nylon soccer bag?
Question by tripleE: How can I clean/wash my son’s nylon soccer bag?
My son’s soccer/duffle bag is 100% nylon. It’s smelly and somewhat dirty. Can I put it in my clothes washer? Should I hose it down with some soap? It’s embroidered with his name; I’d rather keep this one alive than buy a new one.

Put the bag in the washer that is already filled with warm water, soap and a capful (from the bleach bottle) of bleach.
Let it agitate for 5 minutes, stop the machine and let it soak for 10 minutes, then restart the machine and complete the wash, rinse, and spin cycles.
Take the bag out and let it air dry-preferably in the sun.

Q&A: I am making a fruit wine and it says I need to strain the fruit with a nylon bag. Is there a substitute?

Do I need to buy a nylon bag or can I use something that will be easier to find at the local stores?

You can get cheese cloth at grocery or hardware store – use several layers and rinse it well first as it is sometimes linty. Use it to line a strainer. I used one of my Dad’s cotton handkerchiefs one time which worked well but made the hankie purple for ever after. If it is not really seedy or pulpy juice and you are just trying to make it clearer, you could try paper coffee filters. They might clog up too quickly if there is a lot to strain out, though.
