Well, it was not quite a sleeping bag. However, it was only five ounces, and it kept me warm as the temperature dropped to the low forties on the bank of the Manistee River in Michigan. Secret fifteen minutes we spent gathering dead, dry bracken ferns to build a two-foot thick mattress. We went to the tent on it. Then all my clothes, I was right.

In fact, I rarely slept, as I did camping that night. As I said, this is not a sleeping bag, butactually sleeping bag liner. I bought it from Campmor, but I have sewn from a simple one of the negotiation-bin nylon material ($ 1/yard) won the Walmart. If possible, stay warm with a light sleeping bag liner in the autumn, a few degrees above freezing, this strategy works well for summer nights in the sixties.

How to use the sleeping bag Liner

Be careful, of course, backpacking with a liner for sleeping bag. It could bedangerous, or at least bad enough to ruin your trip. Experiment near home, and know themselves and their environment.

To learn a few tricks. If this is not too humid, you can breath in the bag, and you will be much warmer. Most backpackers will tell you not to do it because you wet morning, but in a dry environment, you will be fine once hit the trail. Only dry liner during the break.

Another trick is to use a mattress of dried plants. Try fallen leavespalm leaves, grass, cattail leaves, some tree barks, etc. this type of mattress is isolated from the ground, which usually picks up most of their body heat. Scatter leaves in the morning, so it will not choke the plants underneath.

Some other tricks to try: Hot tea before bedtime … Exercise a little … Hide extra clothes … Elevate your feet slightly … Go to sleep sooner or later. Attempt to see what works best for you.

Also, go to bed warm. Ifyou warm when you get into the sleeping bag, you rather stay warm throughout the night. It's hard to warm up, especially in the small bag when you start shivering.

I am not only recommend backpacking sleeping bag liner, but it's a possibility. I went out with nothing more than a bivy sack in my pocket, but I'm not recommended. This is just imagine all the possibilities for the ultralight backpacker.
